Now Britain's on SNOW ALERT: -10C Arctic blast to bring three inches after storm chaos

STORM-hit Britain is now braced for a -10C (14F) winter blast to bring more than three inches of snow to remote areas later this week.   A sharp twist in the jet stream is about to open the floodgate to bitter Arctic winds bringing freezing fog and widespread frosts. Sleet and snow is forecast as far south as Wales and the Midlands by the weekend with wintry showers possible across the country. The chilly outlook comes as Britain reels in the aftermath of devastating Storm Imogen which struck on Monday. Thousands of homes were yesterday still without power as torrential rain and winds of up to 100mph lashed swathes of the country. Although the gales have died down Britain faces a new twist in the winter weather as bitter winds send thermometers plunging. It threatens further misery for flood-hit regions with saturated ground likely to turn in to lethal sheets of ice. Experts say the jet stream, which has until now been positioned north steering storms in from the ...

Jeremy Hunt branded HYPOCRITE for not working weekends as Junior Doctors go on strike

THE Health Secretary has been branded a "hypocrite" for not meeting with his constituents on weekends. Under-fire Jeremy Hunt has urged more doctors to work on Saturdays and Sundays to create a "seven-day NHS".   The Tory has argued claiming 11,000 more people die in hospitals on those days because of under-staffing – dubbed the "weekend effect". But a doctor yesterday revealed Mr Hunt, the MP for South West Surrey, only offers one-to-one meetings with his constituents once a week. Dr Malcolm Parsloe told the Telegraph: "On Friday I rang the constituency office of Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, for a surgery appointment. "The receptionist said none were available for a month. "I asked if there were any weekend surgeries but was told he only does Friday." HOLIDAY ALERT: Man 'tries to abduct seven-week-old baby from mother's side on beach'

HEROIC lifeguards helped to stop a warped man abducting a baby from his mother's side, according to reports.   Police said the seven-week-old boy was lying on a towel at the beach when the man, 38, approached and tried to grab the child. The mother pushed the man away as the pair were involved in a struggle before nearby lifeguards rushed to their aid, they added. She is said to have suffered minor injuries following the incident at Sydney's Bronte Beach but did not seek medical treatment.  For more detail  HOLIDAY ALERT: Man 'tries to abduct seven-week-old baby from mother's side on beach'

MAJOR DISCOVERY ALERT: Scientists to prove Einstein WAS right about GRAVITATIONAL WAVES

SCIENTISTS will this week prove that Einstein was right – when they unveil the first evidence of gravitational waves.   The visionary physicist first predicted the existence of the mysterious waves – enormous close-to-light-speed ripples in the fabric of space and time – in 1916. And now an elite team of American scientists are likely to announce that they have proved the existence of the so-called "fabric of space-time". The announcement will end a torturous search for proof of one of the most important aspects of Einstein's Theory of Relativity.  For more detail  MAJOR DISCOVERY ALERT: Scientists to prove Einstein WAS right about GRAVITATIONAL WAVES

Donald Trump WINS crucial New Hampshire primary... as Bernie Sanders overtakes Clinton

DONALD Trump looks set to win the Republican Party's nomination to run for president after winning the crucial New Hampshire primary. The outspoken billionaire beat John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio – handing his bid to win the White House a major boost. Mr Trump finished second in last week's Iowa caucus after picking up 24.3 per cent of the vote, compared to Mr Cruz's 27.6 per cent. But he has recovered from that setback following a week of fierce campaiging in the New England state. Democratic Bernie Sanders beat former First Lady Hillary Clinton – making the veteran socialist a legitimate challenger for the party's nomination. The 74-year-old's victory in New Hampshire means he is assured of a majority of the state's pledged delegates. But Mrs Clinton remains ahead in the overall delegate count due to support from superdelegates – the party officials who can support the candidate of their choice. Anmolpreet, Sarfaraz fifties put India Under-19s in final

India 267 for 9 (Anmolpreet 72, Sarfaraz 59, Asitha 4-43) beat Sri Lanka 170 (Mendis 39, Dagar 3-21) by 97 runs India soared to the final of the Under-19 World Cup, for the fifth time, after their dominant 97-run win against Sri Lanka in the first semi-final in Mirpur. India's top order was tested by Sri Lanka's pacers on a pitch with a tinge of green, but Anmolpreet Singh and Sarfaraz Khan added 96 together, and from thereon there was no stopping India, as they eventually sealed the victory with 44 balls to spare. This means that India now have a shot at winning the title for an unprecedented fourth time, as they await either hosts Bangladesh or West Indies who will clash in the second semi-final at the same venue, on February 11. Chasing 268, Sri Lanka were dealt an early blow when pacer Avesh Khan had Avishka Fernando leg-before in the first over. Kaveen Bandara, the other opener, was soon run-out for four, after a mix-up between the wickets....

David Cameron must NOT forget that prison works, says ROSS CLARK

THERE is a wonderful scene in one of the St Trinian’s films where a judge about to close down the delinquent school for good is hoodwinked by a passionate appeal from a liberal reformer who, to a violin solo from one of the girls, tells the court that the pupils are victims of an immoral age but that his inspiration can reform them. The school is saved – and predictably grows even more unruly. David Cameron’s speech on prison reform yesterday, in which he proposed that some prisoners be allowed out during the week and locked up only at weekends, reminded me a lot of that scene. It is only two years ago that the Government was forced to retreat on the last day-release scheme for prisoners after Ian McLoughlin, a killer out on day release from Springhill Prison in Buckinghamshire, murdered a pensioner who had gone round to investigate noises from a house that McLoughlin had decided to burgle. There was also the case of Al-Foday Fofanah, who was let out on temporary r...
