DAVID Cameron's bid to shake up Britain's role in the European Union
could be in tatters – after key member states came out to support an
"ever closer union".

Founding members Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg confirmed their "strong commitment" to the so-called European project yesterday.
The country's foreign ministers released a joint statement ahead of a long awaited summit in Brussels next week.
Mr Cameron is expected to use the conference to push for Britain to have more independence from red tape-loving Eurocrats.
Backing a key pledge in the founding Treaty of Rome, the officials said: "We remain resolved to continue the process of creating an ever closer union among the people of Europe.
